Even though I wasn’t aware of REVERENCE’s existence up until now, I found out that the French legion has been around since , having released four full-length albums, several demos, split CD’s etc. “The Asthenic Ascension” is the band’s very first release through Candlelight Records, since the band’s previous full-length effort was released through the notorious Osmose Productions. Let’s see what .

Hell, there’s even a solo or two worth mentioning (like the lead section found in ‘Ghost of Dust’) but in not being a completely a mind-blowing or revolutionary release Reverence ensure that The Asthenic Ascension can be taken without a grain of salt. The album itself is far from mediocre, but sits well within the confines of the genre.

Though Reverence as a group still have to work to fine-tune their particular sound (so many influential signatures spread across the album) the effect of listening is made no less intense for it. In many ways a true nihilist’s wet dream, The Asthenic Ascension is a worthwhile trip into the abyss.
